Talent Acquisition is the most broken operation across hospitals and health systems in the U.S., this according to a survey conducted by Pinstripe Healthcare during the ASHHRA 49th Annual Conference & Exposition. We facilitated two roundtable discussions during the Conference, HR’s Impact on Business Imperatives, and found that leaders believe optimizing talent acquisition and ultimately the quality of patient care (in addition to HCAHPS Survey scores), begins with a more rigorous selection and interview process.
Highly efficient and successful healthcare organizations are developing talent profiles to identify the right talent for their organizations. This includes moving beyond hiring solely based on qualifications (which is being reflected in subpar HCAHPS Survey scores) and placing equal emphasis on soft skills—for example, cultural fit, leadership potential, personality traits, communication and social skills—to determine best-fit candidates. Results from the survey can be viewed below.
- Reimbursements: 0%
- Employee satisfaction: 11%
- Quality of care: 11%
- Patient satisfaction: 28%
- Talent acquisition function: 50%

Are you surprised not a single attendee listed “reimbursements” as the most troubled operation within their healthcare organization? Is there an operation or process we missed, something you feel is more vital than any of the five listed? We’d love to hear your thoughts on these and other relevant topics below!
